Tompkins County Office for the Aging

The Tompkins County Office for the Aging leads the local Age-Friendly Community efforts, together with many community partners, including the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, Cornell University, municipal leaders, and human service organizations. The initiative helps to further many efforts which are already underway to plan and prepare for the aging population in Ithaca and Tompkins County, and to engage local residents in the process. The Tompkins County Office for the Aging provides a number of services ranging from Health Insurance Counseling to a Home Energy Assistance Program to a Personal Emergency Response System. Many of these programs are free, volunteer-based, or available to older citizens who fall under a defined income level. Additionally, the Office partners with local and national service providers to deliver services. These include Meals on Wheels, which delivers meals to homes; Gadabout, which provides transportation services for those over 60 and the disabled; and Law NY, which provides legal assistance in civil matters. The Office accepts voluntary contributions towards the cost of these services, but does not deny service because of an inability or unwillingness to contribute.
