History in Tompkins County

As of 2017, Ithaca’s youth population (ages 0-17) have declined 5.1% since 2010. Currently the youth population is 2,707. For the 2018-2019 school year, there are 13 public schools that serve 5,338 youth total. Because of the small number of youth in Ithaca, there are only a handful of mentoring programs and places that exist. These programs are Big Brother/Big Sister, Cornell Cross-Cultural Adoptee Mentorship Program, Village at Ithaca Achievement Coach, The College Discovery Program, and the Greater Ithaca Activities Center. These programs specialize in ensuring that the youth population of Ithaca have resources to grow as people and to talk to people who aren’t too much older than them.
